Tea or hot lemon water mixed with honey consumption is a way dedicated to relieve sore throat. But honey can be an effective suppressor, also cough.

In one study, children 2 years and older with infections of the upper respiratory tract were given up to 2 teaspoons (10 ml) of honey before bedtime. Honey seemed to reduce nighttime coughing and improve sleep.

In fact, in the study, the groups appears to be as effective as a cough suppressant ingredient common dextromethorphan addition-to the typical dose counter. Honey is cheap and widely available, it may be worth trying.

However, due to the risk of infant botulism, a rare but serious form of food poisoning, never give honey to a child younger than 1 year.

And do not forget: The cough is not bad at all. This helps loosen the mucus in the airways. If you or your child are in good health, there is usually no reason to suppress a cough.
